Chapter 12 - THE STORY MICHAEL TOLD THE PUBLIC

When investigators released Michael pending formal charges, he went directly to the press.

His attorney advised silence.

Michael ignored him.

He stood outside a Manhattan courthouse and described himself as the victim of a vindictive former wife.

“Mariana used financial control throughout our marriage,” he said.

“She allowed me to build businesses with shared resources, then cut everything off without warning.”

Reporters asked about the forged guarantee.

Michael claimed the documents were drafts prepared during the marriage.

He suggested Mariana had verbally approved them.

“She changed her story after the divorce.”

Celeste appeared beside him in pearls and dark glasses.

She accused Mariana of humiliating Michael because he chose independence.

Within hours, photographs of Mariana’s white house appeared online.

Commentators asked why a wealthy woman would deny her ex-husband access to funds he had used for years.

Some called it economic abuse.

Others described Michael as a social climber exposed by divorce.

Mariana wanted to release everything.

Gustavo stopped her.

“Evidence belongs in court before it belongs on television.”

“But they’re lying.”

“They have always relied on your need to correct them immediately.”

Her attorney prepared one short statement.

The accounts belonged to Mariana’s separate family trust. Authorization ended by mutual divorce decree. Allegations of forgery and investor fraud were under investigation.

Nothing more.

Michael interpreted her restraint as fear.

He gave another interview.

This time, he claimed Gustavo used immigration-era business tactics to intimidate competitors.

That attack changed something in Mariana.

Michael could insult her wealth.

Her silence.

Her marriage.

But he would not rewrite her father’s life to protect his fraud.

She authorized the release of one document.

The divorce settlement page bearing Michael’s signature beneath the termination of all financial access.

Reporters compared it with his claim that he received no warning.

Then the doorbell footage became part of a public court filing.

Michael’s voice could be heard clearly.

UNLOCK THE CARDS.

One of the men behind him asked about the investment payment.

Mariana stated she had never guaranteed the fund.

Celeste attempted to force the door.

The public story shifted.

Financial reporters began investigating Arden Legacy Partners.

Former investors came forward.

One woman had invested her retirement savings after Celeste claimed Gustavo personally approved the fund.

A small-business owner lost two million dollars.

A retired surgeon had transferred four million.

Michael’s public defense exposed the scale of the damage faster than investigators expected.

Then a former Sapphire Room employee contacted Mariana’s attorney.

He possessed a recording made after one of Michael’s investor dinners.

Michael and Celeste discussed what would happen if Mariana discovered everything.

Celeste said:

“Divorce her before she turns forty. Once the trust unlocks, we will have leverage.”

👉 Michael tried to portray Mariana as a bitter ex-wife, but his own media campaign brought forward the witness who could prove the divorce was part of the financial plan.
