Chapter 6 - The First Time He Grabbed Her
Nathan’s first physical act lasted less than five seconds.
Sophia entered the dining room while he and Madison were reviewing property documents.
Madison was wearing Sophia’s mother’s bracelet.
“Take it off,” Sophia said.
Madison looked amused.
“Nathan gave it to me.”
“It was not his to give.”
Nathan stood.
“Don’t create a scene.”
“This is my home.”
“It’s my home.”
Sophia looked at him.
“We bought it together.”
“I paid for it.”
The statement was false.
Vale Meridian had financed the property through a company housing program.
Sophia almost revealed the truth.
Instead, she reached for the bracelet.
Nathan grabbed her wrist.
Hard.
“Enough.”
Sophia stared at his hand.
Nathan released her.
A red mark remained.
For one brief moment, regret crossed his face.
Then Madison laughed.
“She really is dramatic.”
Nathan’s shame turned into anger.
“If you weren’t always provoking people, none of this would happen.”
Sophia walked away.
Inside the bedroom, she photographed her wrist.
She recorded the date.
Then she called a lawyer selected by her father.
“Was this the first incident?” the lawyer asked.
“Yes.”
“Do you feel safe tonight?”
Sophia looked at the locked bedroom door.
“I don’t know.”
The lawyer urged her to leave.
Sophia refused.
She wanted another week to complete the financial evidence.
That week became two.
Nathan began using intimidation whenever Sophia questioned him.
He blocked doors.
He took her phone.
He punched walls beside her head.
He never struck her face.
Not yet.
Each time, he later apologized.
He blamed stress.
He brought flowers.
He said Madison had made him confused.
Then he returned to Madison.
Sophia quietly transferred copies of every recording to Alexander’s legal team.
Ryan, Nathan’s assistant, became suspicious.
He had noticed Sophia disappearing from company events.
He had also seen Madison approving expenses far beyond her authority.
One evening, Ryan found Sophia waiting outside Nathan’s office.
“You shouldn’t go in,” he said.
“Why?”
Ryan looked embarrassed.
“Madison is there.”
Sophia heard laughter behind the door.
“Are they discussing business?”
Ryan did not answer.
Sophia handed him a card containing a secure email address.
“If Nathan asks you to destroy documents, send copies here.”
Ryan stared at the card.
“Who are you?”
Sophia gave a sad smile.
