Chapter 4 - The Woman Who Admired Him
Madison understood Nathan’s weakness almost immediately.
He wanted admiration without questions.
Sophia asked why a project was risky.
Madison called it bold.
Sophia warned him that rapid expansion could collapse the company.
Madison said caution was for people without vision.
She praised his clothes, his interviews and his instinct.
Within six months, she controlled his public image.
She also controlled most of his private schedule.
Sophia noticed the affair in fragments.
Madison’s perfume inside Nathan’s car.
A hotel receipt for two people during a trip Nathan claimed he took alone.
Messages deleted seconds before Sophia entered the room.
A photograph from a company party showing Madison’s hand inside Nathan’s jacket.
Sophia confronted him.
Nathan laughed.
“You sound jealous.”
“I sound observant.”
“She works for me.”
“At two in the morning?”
“We’re building something you wouldn’t understand.”
Sophia stared at him.
“I helped you build everything before she arrived.”
Nathan’s eyes hardened.
“That was years ago. Stop living in the past.”
He moved out of their bedroom soon afterward, claiming he needed uninterrupted sleep.
Madison began attending private dinners where Sophia was excluded.
She chose furniture for the new Beverly Hills house.
She ordered staff as though she already lived there.
Sophia tried to contact Alexander.
Then stopped.
Calling her father felt like admitting he had been right about Nathan.
She still believed the marriage could be repaired without using the power of her family.
Alexander did not force her.
But he watched.
Vale Meridian’s analysts began reporting strange activity inside Brooks Holdings.
Nathan was borrowing heavily against unfinished projects.
He transferred consulting fees to a company connected to Madison.
He pledged future revenue from developments financed by Vale funds.
Alexander sent Sophia a warning.

Sophia replied:
Not yet.
She wanted direct evidence.
Not suspicions.
Not another powerful man making decisions for her.
She entered Nathan’s home office while he attended a charity gala with Madison.
Inside his desk, Sophia found two documents.
The first was a revised marriage agreement that would leave her with almost nothing in a divorce.
The second proposed transferring Brooks Holdings’ most valuable properties into a new company.
The company’s director was Madison.
Beneath both documents was a handwritten note from Nathan.
