Chapter 13 - The Divorce He Had Already Written
The safe contained photographs, false statements and edited recordings.
Nathan had prepared the file for months.
One photograph showed Sophia entering Vale Meridian headquarters.
The caption identified Alexander as her secret lover.
Another showed bruising on Nathan’s arm.
Investigators later determined the image had been taken after a boxing workout.
Nathan intended to claim Sophia attacked him.
Several household employees had signed statements describing Sophia as angry and unstable.
Two admitted Nathan threatened their jobs.
One said Madison paid her.
The most damaging document was a draft police report.
It accused Sophia of stealing company information and attempting to extort Nathan during the divorce.
Nathan planned to file it immediately after obtaining her signature on the waiver.
He would portray himself as the abused spouse of a jealous, financially desperate woman.
Madison expected to move into the Beverly Hills house within a week.
Sophia listened as the attorney explained the scheme.
“He planned to make sure no one believed me before I spoke.”
Alexander’s hands tightened.
The attorney continued.
“There is more.”
Nathan had secretly amended his estate documents.
Madison would receive control of his shares if he died.
Sophia would receive nothing.
Nathan had used a forged marital acknowledgment to claim she accepted the change.
The signature matched the handwriting on several documents Sophia had never seen.
Madison looked less confident when investigators showed her the estate file.
Nathan had promised to marry her.
But he had also signed a private agreement allowing him to cancel her inheritance if she spoke publicly about the affair.
He had planned to control both women.
Madison’s anger became cooperation.
She surrendered voice messages.
In one, Nathan said:
Sophia is useful because she never fights back. Once the company is safe, I’ll make her disappear from the story.
The recording spread through the boardroom.
Directors who once praised Nathan’s leadership could no longer call the scandal a misunderstanding.
Brooks Holdings filed civil claims against him and Madison.
Vale Meridian converted part of its preferred interest and took temporary control.
Alexander offered Sophia the chairmanship.
She refused.
“I am not replacing one family ruler with another.”
“What do you want?” he asked.
“An independent board. Real audits. Protection for employees who speak.”
Alexander smiled faintly.
“That sounds like leadership.”
“It sounds like repair.”
Sophia also filed for divorce.
Nathan received the papers while still in custody.
His attorney requested a private meeting.
Sophia declined.
Then Nathan sent a handwritten message.
