Chapter 29 - Diane’s Sentence

Diane accepted a plea agreement after Blue Harbor’s records connected her to the contract fraud.

At sentencing, she claimed she acted to protect Daniel and the Parker family.

Daniel attended.

He listened without expression.

Diane turned toward him.

“I loved you.”

Daniel answered:

“You loved being part of a powerful family. When protecting that power required risking soldiers, you did it.”

Diane began crying.

Robert did not comfort her.

He submitted a statement describing his sister’s attempt to steal evidence at the wedding.

The judge sentenced Diane to years in federal prison.

Voss received a much longer sentence.

Several officials and executives were convicted.

Recovered funds supported injured service members and families harmed by defective equipment.

Robert transformed the Parker Foundation.

It no longer carried Daniel’s name alone.

Its board included veterans, medical professionals, and independent auditors.

Megan agreed to advise only if every financial record remained public.

Robert agreed.

Evan attempted to rebuild his reputation through interviews.

Lauren never responded.

The reception videos continued circulating online.

The most famous clip showed Robert crossing the ballroom and bowing to Megan.

But Megan preferred another recording.

It showed Lauren stepping between her and the man sent to steal the clutch.

It was not enough to erase the betrayal.

But it was the first moment her sister chose courage over acceptance.
