Chapter 24 - The Truth About the Mission
Voss ordered Robert to place the pouch on the floor.
Robert obeyed.
Voss opened it.
The metal inside was a harmless duplicate.
His face changed.
Megan stepped into view.
Police moved into position outside.
Voss pressed a weapon against Samir’s shoulder.
“No closer.”
Megan stopped.
Samir looked at her.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“I gave them your route.”
The confession struck Daniel hard.
Samir explained Voss threatened his family.
He revealed the alternate extraction point.
That allowed the attack team to intercept Daniel’s vehicle.
Megan said, “You were under coercion.”
“People died.”
“Voss made the choice.”
Voss laughed.
“Everyone suddenly becomes innocent when pressure is applied.”
Robert answered, “No. Some people take responsibility.”
He looked toward Diane’s empty position as though speaking about his entire family.
Samir revealed that the original invoices were stored aboard Blue Harbor.
Voss kept them because destroying them would eliminate leverage over politicians and contractors who participated.
The vessel was not simply evidence.
It was a floating blackmail archive.
Voss intended to move it outside American waters.
Daniel asked how many officials were involved.
Samir answered:
“Enough to bury the case twice.”
Megan raised her hands slightly.
“Charles, you cannot move the ship now.”
Voss smiled.
“It left the dock ten minutes ago.”
Through the hangar opening, Blue Harbor’s lights moved toward the horizon.
The original records were leaving with it.
Then Robert’s phone vibrated.
The emergency court order had frozen the vessel’s registration.
