Chapter 19 - The Man Behind the Parker Name

Charles Voss had worked with Robert for twenty years.

He advised Parker companies on government contracts.

He attended family holidays.

He stood beside Robert at Daniel’s hospital bed.

He told Robert no one could identify the service member who saved his son.

Now Robert understood why.

Voss did not want him finding Megan.

He feared Robert would finance her search for the truth.

Diane admitted Voss contacted her three months before the wedding.

He said Megan might attend because Lauren’s guest list had entered a venue database.

He convinced Diane that Megan intended to extort the Parker family.

He suggested searching her.

Moving her seat.

Hiring the man near the kitchen.

Diane followed his instructions because Voss knew about her contract approvals.

He could expose her whenever he wanted.

Robert asked, “Where is he?”

Diane looked at the ballroom windows.

“He was supposed to watch from outside.”

Security reviewed the parking cameras.

A black sedan had been parked across the street since morning.

It was now gone.

Megan examined the photograph of Samir again.

The coordinates were not a meeting place.

They belonged to a private airfield owned by one of Voss’s shell companies.

Samir was either being moved or used as bait.

Daniel insisted on going.

Megan refused.

“You have a family.”

“So do you.”

“No.”

Daniel looked toward Lauren, Robert, and the guests who now watched Megan with awe.

“That is not true anymore.”

Megan did not answer.

For years, distance kept people safe.

Now the people she avoided had already been pulled into the danger.

And Samir might not survive another night.
