Chapter 6 - The Missing Letter

One week before the wedding, Henry had received a handwritten letter.

It warned him to sell the Willow Street property before Daniel’s marriage.

The message contained no signature.

It ended with one sentence:

A father who truly loves his son knows when to disappear.

Henry had not shown Daniel.

He did not want fear to ruin the wedding.

Instead, he gave the letter to Evelyn.

Her investigators traced the paper to an executive stationery supplier used by Whitmore Capital.

Richard denied writing it.

Lorraine called it absurd.

Vanessa looked frightened.

Daniel watched each of them carefully.

“Someone in this family threatened my father.”

Richard pointed toward Henry.

“This could be fabricated.”

Evelyn nodded to the security officer.

He connected his tablet to the ballroom’s screen.

Footage appeared from a hallway camera inside the Whitmore estate.

The video showed Lorraine entering Richard’s study three nights earlier.

She opened a locked drawer.

Inside were copies of the threatening letter.

Lorraine’s confidence disappeared.

Richard turned toward her.

“What did you do?”

“I was protecting Vanessa.”

“You threatened Henry without telling me?”

Lorraine looked at Daniel.

“You would have married my daughter and dragged her into that miserable little house.”

Daniel stepped closer.

“You called my father trash because he refused to be bought.”

Lorraine lifted her chin.

“And he would have sold eventually.”

Henry’s eyes narrowed.

“Why are you so certain?”

Lorraine glanced toward Richard.

That single look exposed something deeper.

Evelyn asked security to search the estate office.
