Chapter 6 - The Hidden Lens

Marcus burst into the narrow hallway of the house.

Vanessa was inside the home office near back desk.

She held a heavy steel claw hammer in hand.

She was wildly smashing a black plastic router box.

Wires hung loosely from shattered drywall behind the desk.

Sparks flew as steel smashed against computer circuit boards.

"Step away from the hardware now!" Marcus commanded loudly.

Vanessa turned around with sheer, unhinged madness in eyes.

She raised the steel hammer high above her head.

"I will not let you ruin my life!" Vanessa screamed.

She swung the heavy hammer straight toward Marcus's chest.

Marcus dodged sideways with fast, combat-trained agility reflexes.

He grabbed Vanessa's right wrist with an iron grip.

He twisted her arm downward with firm, controlled force.

The steel hammer dropped onto the hardwood floor loudly.

Officer Davis rushed into the office with gun drawn.

"Put your hands where I can see them!" Davis barked.

Vanessa collapsed onto her knees, sobbing with fake tears.

"He attacked me!" Vanessa sobbed violently on floor.

"He broke into my house and tried to kill!"

Marcus ignored her pathetic act and pulled out phone.

"You smashed the local router box, Vanessa," Marcus said.

"But the security feed uploads directly to cloud storage."

"I have live cellular connection on my mobile phone."

Marcus unlocked his smart phone screen with thumb print.

He opened the secure home surveillance application software instantly.

The cloud app displayed stored video files from today.

Officer Davis stepped beside Marcus to watch the screen.

Grandma Whitmore walked into office, looking completely stoic.

She saw the phone screen lit up with video.

Her cold arrogance began to crack at the edges.

The video thumbnail showed today's date and exact timestamp.

The time was exactly forty-five minutes before discovery.

Marcus tapped the play icon button on the screen.

The high-definition video feed began playing back smoothly.

On screen, the backdoor opened slowly into sunlit yard.

Grandma Whitmore held the heavy glass door wide open.

Vanessa carried a sleeping, limp child in her arms.

It was little Lily wearing her pink pajama set.
