Reporters pressed against the glass windows of the mansion.
Camera flashes lit up the dark night sky continuously.
Live news broadcasts broadcasted the raid across the entire nation.
Grandma Whitmore was led out front door in handcuffs.
Her expensive hair was messy and unkempt in wind.
Vanessa was crying hysterically, covering face from flashbulbs.
Attorney Vance hung his head low, avoiding camera lenses.
The headline scrolled across millions of television screens nationwide:
"Prominent Wealthy Family Arrested For Dumpster Child Attempt."
The town of Pine Ridge watched in total shock.
People could not believe the respected family were monsters.
Inside the hospital, I watched live news on television.
Lily was awake now, sitting up in hospital bed.
She was eating a small bowl of vanilla ice cream.
Color had returned to her sweet, rosy toddler cheeks.
She looked at television screen and pointed tiny finger.
"Look Mommy, bad Grandma is on TV screen," Lily said.
I sat on edge of bed and hugged her gently.
"She will never hurt you ever again, sweet baby."
Marcus walked into hospital room with a warm smile.
He held a copy of formal court documents in hand.
"Vance's corrupt judge friend was suspended tonight," Marcus reported.
"The federal prosecutor is taking over whole criminal case."
"Grandma and Vanessa are held without bail in federal jail."
"They will stand trial for attempted capital murder soon."
I let out a long breath I held all day.
The nightmare was finally coming to an official end.
Justice was finally being served to those evil women.
Marcus sat beside us and held my trembling hand tightly.
"We are going to start fresh somewhere new," Marcus promised.
"A place far away from this corrupt small town."
I smiled through tears, feeling peace in my heart.
Lily giggled softly, offering me a spoon of ice cream.
Everything seemed safe, secure, and peaceful at last.
