Chapter 11 - The Lawyer's Intervention
Four black state trooper vehicles sped down Elm Street.
Their emergency sirens were silent to preserve total surprise.
They pulled into the long circular driveway of mansion.
Grandma Whitmore and Vanessa were celebrating inside grand parlor.
They were drinking vintage champagne with Attorney Vance together.
They believed their money and power had saved them.
Suddenly, state troopers kicked the heavy front doors open.
Wood shattered as six armed troopers rushed into parlor.
"State Police! Hands in the air immediately!" troopers ordered.
Attorney Vance dropped his champagne glass onto Persian rug.
The glass shattered into a hundred shiny, tiny pieces.
"What is the meaning of this intrusion?" Vance yelled.
"I am a licensed attorney representing these prominent citizens!"
General Thomas stepped through the broken front door frame.
He held a federal arrest warrant signed by supreme judge.
"Attorney Vance, you are under arrest for obstruction justice."
"You are also charged with bribery of local county judges."
Vance's face drained of color as troopers grabbed him.
They slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto Vance's wrists tightly.
Vanessa began screaming and spilling champagne over sweater.
"You cannot arrest us again!" Vanessa shrieked out loud.
"We posted bail three hours ago at court!"
General Thomas walked up to Vanessa with cold disgust.
"Your bail was revoked by the Federal Magistrate court."
"We have new evidence recorded from inside dumpster unit."
"We have audio of you planning the trust theft."
Grandma Whitmore stood up, her blue blouse trembling wildly.
"This is an outrage!" Grandma shrieked at troopers.
"My family built this town from nothing years ago!"
"You take your hands off me this instant!"
Trooper Davis forced Grandma's arms behind her back firmly.
Steel cuffs snapped shut around her frail, wrinkled wrists.
"Your empire ends tonight, Mrs. Whitmore," Thomas declared.
News media vans pulled into the driveway outside mansion.
