Chapter 14 - The Final Trap

Marcus drove down the winding mountain highway toward home.
He glanced in his rear-view mirror at traffic behind.
A dark black sedan was tailgating his pickup truck close.
The sedan had dark tinted windows and no license plates.
Marcus accelerated his speed, but sedan matched his pace.
Suddenly, the black sedan rammed into Marcus's back bumper.
Metal crunched loudly as truck jolted forward violently on road.
"What the hell?" Marcus yelled, gripping steering wheel tight.
The black sedan pulled alongside his truck on left side.
The passenger window rolled down slowly in morning wind.
A man wearing a black ski mask pointed handgun.
He fired three shots straight through Marcus's truck window.
Glass shattered into dust, spraying across passenger seat interior.
Marcus ducked his head low, swerving truck to right.
His truck tires skidded off pavement onto gravel shoulder.
Dust clouds billowed high into morning sky behind him.
Marcus slammed his foot onto brake pedal with force.
The truck spun around in a full circle safely.
The black sedan overshot and stopped fifty yards ahead.
The gunman stepped out of sedan with weapon drawn.
He walked steadily toward Marcus's stopped truck on road.
Marcus reached under his driver seat for emergency flare gun.
He loaded a red magnesium flare cartridge into chamber.
The gunman raised his pistol toward Marcus's windshield glass.
"Grandma sends her regards, Marcus!" the gunman shouted out.
Marcus kicked his driver door open hard into gunman.
The heavy metal door struck the gunman's arm viciously.
The pistol flew from gunman's hand onto gravel road.
Marcus leveled the flare gun directly at gunman's chest.
"Do not move a single muscle!" Marcus barked with fury.
He pulled flare trigger, firing bright red fireball out.
The red flare struck gunman's shoulder, setting shirt ablaze.
The gunman screamed in pain and collapsed onto dirt.
