The next morning, federal agents searched the Whitmore mansion.
They opened the heavy steel safe behind office painting.
Inside, they discovered stack of old financial estate documents.
They also found a handwritten letter dated four years ago.
The letter was written by my late father-in-law Henry.
General Thomas called Marcus to federal office building early.
"Marcus, you need to read this letter immediately," Thomas said.
Marcus opened the yellowed paper envelope with careful fingers.
The letter revealed a shocking secret kept for four years.
Henry Whitmore had not died of natural heart attack.
He was systematically poisoned by Grandma and Vanessa slowly.
They poisoned his tea over six long months continuously.
They altered his final will to control estate money.
Henry discovered their plot right before his final breath.
He wrote this letter and hid it inside safe.

"They murdered my father too," Marcus whispered in shock.
His voice shook with overwhelming grief and raw anger.
"They killed him for the exact same estate money."
General Thomas nodded solemnly from behind his large desk.
"The District Attorney is adding first-degree murder charges today."
"Both women face mandatory life sentences without parole now."
"Or the death penalty under state capital murder statutes."
Marcus walked out of federal building into bright morning sun.
He called my phone immediately to explain the finding.
I listened in silence, tears streaming down my face.
My mother-in-law was a cold, serial family murderer.
She killed her husband and tried to kill granddaughter.
All for money, power, and prestige in small town.
"Is Lily okay at home?" Marcus asked with concern.
"She is playing with her wooden toys in living room."
"I have state trooper officers guarding our front door."
"Good, I am driving home right now," Marcus said.
He stepped into his pickup truck and started engine.
