Evelyn met with the bankruptcy trustee.
She did not want Hale Family Furnishings.
She did not want Margaret’s name.
But she wanted the employees to receive what had been taken from them.
Verity offered to purchase the company’s profitable custom-manufacturing division at a fair court-approved price.
The money would go directly toward unpaid wages and retirement contributions.
Margaret would receive nothing.
The workers voted to accept.
Robert Pierce returned as temporary financial supervisor.
Employees received profit-sharing rights.
The new business was renamed Hearthline Cooperative.
When reporters asked Evelyn why she saved part of the company after everything that happened, she answered:
“The employees were used as an excuse to steal from me. I will not let the people who were exploited become collateral damage.”
Margaret watched the interview from jail.
Her attorney later said she became furious when she heard the new name.
For decades, she had claimed the Hale family protected its workers.
In reality, Evelyn protected them only after the Hales were removed.
Daniel cooperated fully with prosecutors.
He helped recover the retirement funds and identify the corrupt loan officer who ignored obvious forgeries.
His cooperation mattered legally.
It did not restore Evelyn’s trust.
During divorce mediation, Daniel waived claims to Verity, the marital home, and Evelyn’s investments.
He also agreed to testify that the marriage had been used to gain financial access.
Evelyn did not request spousal support.
She requested restitution.
Margaret refused every settlement offer.
She insisted on trial.
Her defense would claim Evelyn authorized the cards and transfers as gifts.
Then Claire found the message that destroyed that claim.
Margaret had written to Daniel:
Never call it a loan in front of Evelyn. Gifts are harder to recover in court.
Daniel replied:
She thinks the six thousand is temporary.
Margaret answered:
May you like
Let her.
