Chapter 10 - THE HEARING LILY DID NOT ATTEND

Daniel refused to place Lily in a courtroom.
Her social worker provided a recorded forensic interview instead.
Claire appeared by video from her attorney’s office after being released pending charges.
She wore a pale blouse and no makeup.
She looked exhausted.
Deliberately so.
Her attorney described postpartum depression, marital isolation, and an interfering mother who gave poor advice.
He argued Claire deserved treatment, not separation from her children.
Daniel did not deny that Claire might need help.
He denied that illness erased what she chose.
The kitchen footage played.
Claire leaving.
Diane handing Noah to Lily.
Marcus kissing Claire.
The discussion about emptying accounts.
The judge watched without interruption.
Then Lily’s interview began.
Rachel asked, “What happened when Noah cried?”
“I walked.”
“For how long?”
“Until he stopped.”
“What if your arms hurt?”
“Mom said babies don’t care if you’re tired.”
“Did you ever want to call your father?”
“Yes.”
“Why didn’t you?”
“Mom said Daddy would lose his job if I bothered him.”
Claire began crying.
Her attorney requested a pause.
The judge refused.
Lily described the night Daniel found her.
“I spilled the milk.”
“Were you afraid your father would be angry?”
“Yes.”
“Was he?”
“No. He hugged me.”
The judge looked toward Daniel.
“What did your daughter say first?”
Daniel’s voice broke.
“She said her back hurt.”
The court granted Daniel temporary sole custody.
Claire received no unsupervised contact.
Diane was barred from both children.
The judge froze every education and family account connected to Marcus.
She also ordered an independent psychological evaluation for Claire.
After the hearing, reporters gathered outside.
Someone had leaked the affair.
Claire’s attorney released a statement accusing Daniel of using a private family breakdown to destroy a struggling mother.
Daniel issued only one response.
“My daughter did not consent to becoming a parent at seven.”
Public reaction changed when the full statement appeared beside the medical records.
Then another parent contacted police.
Her child had attended sleepovers at the Harper home.

The girl said Lily was often left responsible for three children while Claire and Diane drank downstairs.
👉 The neglect extended beyond Daniel’s home, and witnesses began proving Claire had built an entire social image around exploiting children.
