The Monday guardianship hearing was canceled.
Instead of defending her competence, Eleanor appeared as the victim in a criminal investigation.
A full audit uncovered forged signatures, fraudulent loan documents, unauthorized transfers, and the fabricated medical statement.
Grant had diverted more than $700,000 directly.
The remaining $1.1 million represented loans secured through false financial disclosures.
Vivian had not received trust money, but she had helped prepare the false narrative about Eleanor’s mental condition.
She had also introduced Grant to the person who created the forged doctor’s letter.
Rachel, Madison, Henry, Mr. Bell, and several hotel employees provided statements.
The wedding video became the strongest evidence against Grant.
It showed Eleanor speaking clearly.

Six months later, Grant pleaded guilty to financial exploitation of an elderly person, forgery, fraud, and attempting to obtain guardianship through false evidence.
The judge sentenced him to prison and ordered restitution.

Vivian accepted a plea agreement for conspiracy and falsifying evidence.
She received probation, community service, and a substantial fine.
More painfully for her, Madison cut contact until Vivian completed counseling and accepted responsibility without excuses.
During sentencing, Grant looked at Eleanor.
For one moment, he appeared like the little boy who had once run into her arms after falling from his bicycle.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
Eleanor’s eyes filled with tears.
“I believe you are sorry you lost everything.”
Grant lowered his head.
She continued.
“I hope one day you become sorry for what you did to people who loved you.”
The courtroom was silent.
Eleanor did not ask the judge to excuse him.
