Chapter 15 - The Monday Hearing
The emergency hearing had been scheduled for Monday morning.
Grant expected Eleanor to know nothing about it until officers delivered the court notice after the wedding.
By then, he planned to have the ballroom footage.
A video of Eleanor shouting at security.
Statements from hotel employees claiming she appeared confused.
Witnesses saying she had tried to stop her son’s wedding over money.
He would present himself as the heartbroken child forced to intervene.
But Eleanor had not shouted.
She had not pushed past anyone.
She had walked away with dignity.
The cameras had captured Grant blocking her while she held the contracts proving she had paid.
His own trap had recorded the truth.
Rachel gave the investigator every email.
The hotel provided security footage.
Mr. Bell confirmed Grant had personally ordered employees not to admit Eleanor.
Madison handed over the folder Eleanor had given her.
Vivian attempted to leave through a service corridor.
Two hotel security officers stopped her.
“You cannot detain me,” she snapped.
The investigator approached.
“No one is arresting you at this moment. But destroying or removing evidence will change that very quickly.”
Vivian froze.
Grant looked toward the ballroom doors as if measuring whether he could run.
Eleanor saw the movement.
For the first time that day, she understood how frightened he was.
Not ashamed.
Not sorry.
Frightened of losing what he believed he deserved.
“Why?” she asked.
Grant turned toward her.
“I spent my entire life waiting for you and Dad to trust me.”
“We gave you a company position, a home, and every opportunity.”
“But never control.”
“Control had to be earned.”
His face twisted.
“Dad was going to give it to me.”
“No,” Eleanor said. “Your father changed the trust because he discovered you were hiding debt.”
Grant stared at her.
That truth had remained unspoken for three years.
