Chapter 7 - The Campaign Against the Bride

Anonymous messages began appearing online.
Claire was called a fortune hunter.
A disgruntled contractor.
An ambitious employee seducing the heir to avoid prosecution for stealing records.
Photographs of her entering law offices were presented as proof of secret financial schemes.
Someone contacted her wedding vendors.
The florist canceled.
The hairstylist claimed a scheduling error.
The original dress designer received a forged email stating the wedding had been postponed.
Daniel traced several messages to an assistant employed by Evelyn.
He confronted his mother.
She denied involvement.
“You are marrying someone who has built her career around accusing your family,” Evelyn said.
“She found fraud.”
“She found irregularities.”
“She found children used as fundraising props.”
Evelyn’s face hardened.
“You think your father never made difficult decisions?”
“He was trying to remove you.”
“You have Claire’s interpretation of incomplete notes.”
“I have his handwriting.”
Evelyn changed tactics.
She told Daniel that Claire planned to seize the foundation after marriage.
She claimed Claire wanted Mercer voting rights and access to the estate.
Daniel told Claire everything.
There were no private alliances left for Evelyn to exploit.
Claire asked him once, “Do you still want the wedding?”
“Yes.”
“Even if your mother does something unforgivable?”
Daniel looked at her.
“She may already have.”
The answer hurt them both.
Claire arranged replacement vendors.
Miriam installed independent cameras in the bridal suite and chapel hallways.
Every recording uploaded to secure cloud storage.
Only Claire and the attorney had access.
The wedding gown arrived one day early and remained sealed in its garment bag.
Claire checked it that night.
Perfect.
On the morning of the ceremony, her bridesmaid helped her dress.
A hospital donor requested a private conversation downstairs.
Claire left the suite for ten minutes.
When she returned, the room smelled faintly of Evelyn’s perfume.
The garment bag was closed.
The gown still appeared intact while Claire wore the veil over it.
Only when she stepped toward the chapel did the cut sections begin separating.
Her bridesmaid gasped.
Claire looked into the mirror.
The damage was deliberate.
Designed to worsen as she walked.
Evelyn expected the dress to fall apart before Claire reached the altar.
Claire’s hands began shaking.
Then Miriam opened the hidden-camera feed.

They watched Evelyn make every cut.
👉 Claire could have called the police from the bridal suite, but she chose to walk because Evelyn had placed every witness Claire needed inside the chapel.
