Chapter 13 - The Wrong Hospital

Ethan ordered the ambulance crew to take Claire to a private clinic affiliated with Dr. Voss.

But Claire’s blood pressure collapsed during transport.

The paramedics diverted to the nearest trauma center.

Gabriel’s hospital.

Ethan argued with them.

He threatened lawsuits.

The lead paramedic refused.

“She needs a trauma team now.”

At the emergency entrance, Ethan continued the performance.

“My wife slipped after drinking. She has anxiety medication in her system.”

Dr. Voss arrived and reinforced the story.

He tried to take control of Claire’s treatment.

A resident physician refused because Voss had no privileges at the hospital.

Claire was brought into Trauma Room Three.

Nurses cut away her clothing.

The injuries appeared one by one.

Old bruises.

Fresh bruises.

Finger marks.

Defensive wounds.

A healing fracture along one rib.

The charge nurse quietly called hospital security.

She also contacted Gabriel, who was finishing a complex surgery upstairs.

Ethan stood outside the curtain, rehearsing the same explanation.

“She fell.”

“She’s been unstable.”

“She drinks when she’s anxious.”

A young nurse named Lily checked Claire’s wristband and noticed her maiden name in the emergency contact records.

Bennett.

She looked again.

Then she realized the patient was Dr. Gabriel Bennett’s sister.

Gabriel arrived minutes later.

He entered the room, saw Claire’s body, and understood what had happened before anyone spoke.

The punch came next.

Then the locked doors.

Then Claire’s encrypted folder.

As officers restrained Ethan, Dr. Voss tried to leave through a side corridor.

Lily stopped him.

“Security needs you to remain here.”

Voss pushed past her.

Marcus Reed entered from the opposite end with two detectives.

“Dr. Malcolm Voss?”

Voss froze.

Marcus held up a warrant.
