Chapter 14 - EVAN’S OFFER
Evan offered prosecutors complete access to his business records.
He would testify that Claire created the idea of declaring Margaret incompetent.
He claimed Claire supplied the forged signatures and selected the drug.
In return, he wanted immunity from the most serious charges.
The messages contradicted him.
Evan had sourced the substance.
Paid the notary.
Created the offshore structure.
Promised the land to the buyer.
Still, Claire’s participation was undeniable.
When Claire learned of his offer, she finally understood that the man she helped destroy her mother for would sacrifice her without hesitation.
She changed her plea.
Claire admitted gathering signatures, falsifying medical records, installing surveillance and helping prepare the drink.
She agreed to testify against Evan and the corrupt notary.
Her cooperation did not erase the charges.
It clarified the hierarchy.
Evan designed the financial architecture.
Claire gave him access to Margaret’s life.
During her testimony, the prosecutor asked:
“At what point did you understand that your mother’s consent no longer mattered to you?”
Claire cried for nearly a minute before answering.
“When she refused the second power of attorney.”
“Why?”
“Because I had already decided we needed the money more than she needed the choice.”
Margaret closed her eyes.

Claire had converted need into entitlement.
Evan’s attorney attacked Claire as a bitter wife seeking leniency.

Evan passing the vial.
Evan instructing the bartender.

The sealed sample connected the vial to the drink.
The text messages connected Claire to the signing plan.
The waiting notary connected the impairment to the property transfer.
The entire conspiracy fit together without speculation.
The jury convicted Evan of attempted poisoning, conspiracy, elder exploitation, fraud, forgery, unlawful surveillance and multiple financial crimes.
Claire had already pleaded guilty.
Sentencing would occur separately.
