Elena filed for divorce the morning after sentencing.
Jackson did not contest it.
He had no leverage left.
Under the final settlement, Elena kept her apartment, her inheritance, and every share Victor had left her.
Jackson received only his personal belongings and the debts attached to his secret accounts.
Genesis’s mansion was sold to help repay investors and employees.
Several relatives who had supported her disappeared when the money disappeared.
Others wrote Elena apologies.
She answered only Marlene and Caleb.
Marlene had spoken when it mattered.
Caleb had admitted the truth even though it meant testifying against his brother.
Elena did not forgive everyone.

The easiest choice would have been to liquidate it, take her money, and walk away.
Then she met with the employees.

She renamed the company Carter-Reed Communities, keeping part of the old name for the employees who had built its honest projects and adding her father’s name where Genesis had tried to erase it.
She appointed an independent board.
Every executive expense became public to shareholders.
A portion of recovered funds was placed into employee retirement accounts.
The luxury development Genesis had planned was redesigned into mixed-income apartments for teachers, nurses, and first responders.
Elena refused to become another Genesis.
Power would not be used to demand loyalty.
It would be used responsibly.
Months later, workers removed the massive gold letters bearing Genesis’s name from the company headquarters.
Elena watched from the sidewalk.
Caleb stood beside her.
“Do you feel like you won?” he asked.
Elena thought about the scar above her ear.
“I feel like I survived.”
That evening, she returned to Victor’s apartment.
The dining table where he had taught her about money was still beside the window.
She placed his letter in a frame.
For the first time in years, the apartment did not feel like a disputed asset.
It felt like home.
