Chapter 16 - MAKE HER SIGN
The courtroom was silent when the prosecutor played the recording.
Jackson’s voice came first.
“What if she still refuses?”
Then Genesis answered.
“She won’t refuse once the whole family is against her.”
“She already knows about the audit.”
“Then make her understand what she will lose.”
Jackson lowered his voice.
“She might call the police.”
Genesis laughed.
“She has spent seven years protecting your reputation. She won’t destroy it in one night.”
The recording ended.
Elena sat beside Nora.
Across the courtroom, Genesis stared straight ahead.
The message did not prove they had planned the exact plate attack.
But it proved the dinner had been organized to intimidate Elena into signing.
Combined with the forged documents, prepared witness statements, and Jackson’s threats, the prosecution established a pattern.
Marlene testified that Genesis said, “Make her understand,” seconds before Jackson struck Elena.
Caleb testified that Jackson had bragged Elena would finally learn her place.
Officer Ramirez described finding the financial documents beneath Genesis’s hand.
The emergency dispatcher played Elena’s 911 call.
Her voice was calm.
Jackson’s shouting could be heard in the background.
His lawyer argued that he had been under extreme stress.
The prosecutor answered simply.
“Stress did not forge a signature. Stress did not prepare false witness statements. Stress did not steal a ledger or burn financial records.”
Jackson eventually accepted a plea agreement.
He pleaded guilty to felony assault, attempted identity theft, fraudulent use of personal information, and conspiracy to commit financial coercion.
Genesis refused every offer.
She insisted a jury would believe her.
They did not.
She was convicted of fraud, conspiracy, evidence destruction, obstruction, and witness tampering.
When the verdict was read, Genesis finally turned toward Elena.
“You ruined my family,” she hissed.
Elena met her eyes.
“No. I stopped you from ruining anyone else.”
Jackson received a prison sentence followed by supervised probation and mandatory restitution.
Genesis received a longer sentence because of the financial crimes and attempted cover-up.
The judge also prohibited both of them from contacting Elena.
Outside court, reporters surrounded her.
Elena gave only one statement.
“Being married to someone does not make your property, your body, or your voice belong to them.”
Justice had been delivered.
