Chapter 15 - THE WOMAN AT THE HEAD OF THE TABLE

Genesis entered the emergency board meeting with a smile.
She wore white.
She brought two attorneys.
Jackson attended by video from his lawyer’s office because the protective order prevented him from approaching Elena.
Genesis sat at the head of the table.
“That seat belongs to the chairwoman,” she said when Elena entered.
The corporate attorney opened a folder.
“You are correct.”
Genesis smiled.
Then the attorney turned toward Elena.
“Mrs. Reed, please take the chair.”
No one spoke.
Genesis slowly stood.
“This is absurd.”
The attorney presented Victor’s certified loan agreements, the conversion clause, and proof of default.
Elena’s fifty-four percent voting interest was legally valid.
Genesis attempted to challenge it.
Her own attorney whispered to her, then stopped arguing.
Elena took the seat.
Her hands were steady.
Genesis had expected a frightened daughter-in-law.
Instead, she faced the controlling shareholder.
Elena called the first vote.
Genesis was removed as chief executive pending investigation.
The vote passed.
Jackson was terminated for misconduct, fraud, and misuse of company assets.
It passed.
An independent management team was appointed.
It passed.
Genesis struck the table.
“You cannot take what I built.”
Elena looked at her.
“My father helped you build it. You stole from him, your investors, your employees, and me.”
“You are doing this because Jackson lost his temper.”
“No. I’m doing this because you both believed violence would make me sign away the truth.”
The audit results were distributed.
Reed Urban Development was damaged but salvageable.
Most employees could keep their jobs if the stolen money was recovered and unprofitable vanity projects were closed.
Elena approved immediate payment of overdue payroll taxes.
She canceled Genesis’s company car, personal expense account, and private club membership.
After the meeting, employees gathered in the hallway.
Some had worked for Genesis for decades.
Elena expected resentment.
Instead, an older project manager shook her hand.
“My retirement was in that company,” he said. “Thank you for not letting them destroy it.”
For the first time since the assault, Elena felt something other than fear.
She felt respected.
Then the prosecutor called.
A deleted voice message had been recovered from Jackson’s phone.
May you like
It was recorded two hours before the dinner.
👉 Jackson’s deleted message proved the plate attack had not been a moment of anger—it had been the threatened consequence of Elena refusing to sign.
