Chapter 9 - THE LAST MEAL IN DANIEL’S HOUSE

Dinner began with Gloria praising Daniel.
She spoke about his leadership.
His sacrifices.
His patience with a wife who had become “difficult under pressure.”
Several relatives nodded.
Claire sat quietly.
Vanessa poured wine as though she belonged at the table.
Daniel presented the reconciliation agreement before the main course.
“This protects the company and gives us time to heal.”
Claire turned the pages slowly.
“You want control of my voting shares.”
“Temporarily.”
“You want me to release you from past financial decisions.”
“That is standard.”
“You want Vanessa appointed interim chief executive.”
Vanessa leaned back.
“The board needs stability.”
Claire closed the folder.
“No.”
Daniel’s jaw tightened.
Gloria spoke sharply.
“This family has carried you long enough.”
Claire almost laughed.
“My company paid for half the things in this room.”
Daniel ordered her to bring the next course.
Claire remained seated.
“I dismissed the staff for tonight,” Gloria said. “You can manage one meal.”
Claire looked at Daniel.
“You invited people here to pressure me into signing fraud.”
He rose.
“Go to the kitchen.”
“No.”
The slap came so quickly that several relatives gasped.
Claire’s face turned with the impact.
Her mouth struck the edge of a wineglass.
Daniel seized her shoulder.
“Stop defying me in my own house.”
Gloria looked toward the other guests.
“She provoked him.”
Vanessa remained seated.
Her expression held no surprise.
Daniel shoved Claire toward the kitchen.
“And make the noodles you promised.”
Claire entered the kitchen without running.
She touched her phone beneath the counter.
The live feed transmitted to Morales.
Mara asked through the hidden earpiece:
“Are you able to continue?”
Claire tasted blood.
“Yes.”
“We can enter now.”
“Wait for the tray.”
Claire removed the silver lid.
Placed every document beneath it.
Then she saw the security monitor replaying the slap from two angles.
The image ended any final doubt.
She carried the tray into the dining room.
Daniel had returned to his seat.
He believed the humiliation had restored order.
Claire placed the tray at the center of the table and sat at its head.
Her hands no longer shook.
“Where is the food?” Gloria demanded.
Claire lifted the lid.
May you like
“Dinner is served.”
👉 Daniel expected Claire to return carrying noodles, but she returned carrying the evidence that would end his freedom before dessert.
