Chapter 10 - THE FAMILY SEES THE ACCOUNTS
After the officers restrained Daniel, Detective Morales read the preliminary charges.
Domestic assault.
Conspiracy to commit corporate fraud.
Forgery.
Identity theft.
Embezzlement.
Obstruction.
Gloria interrupted.
“This is a private family matter.”
Morales looked at the bank statements.
“Three million dollars in stolen corporate funds is not private.”
Gloria claimed she knew nothing about Vantage Route Partners.
Claire lifted a deed from the tray.
The company purchased Gloria’s lake property.
Her signature appeared on the closing documents.
Daniel shouted:
“Mom didn’t understand the structure.”
Gloria turned toward him.
“You told me the payments were legal consulting fees.”
Vanessa remained silent.
Morales asked for her phone.
She refused.
An officer presented the warrant.
Clara—Daniel’s sister—began crying when she saw invoices from her boutique.
She claimed Daniel offered an investment.
Claire showed her the application.
It described the boutique as a profitable design supplier serving Morgan Table Foods.
Clara had signed the false revenue statement.
“I didn’t know where the money came from.”
“You knew your company never supplied us,” Claire answered.
Other relatives discovered that Daniel had borrowed against retirement accounts they allowed him to manage.
Some were victims.
Some were participants.
The room divided quickly.
Gloria blamed Vanessa.
Vanessa blamed Daniel.
Daniel blamed Claire for misunderstanding aggressive business strategy.
Then Morales connected the USB to a secured tablet.
Daniel’s voice filled the room.
Once Claire signs, we dilute her below thirty percent. Alder Peak can remove her before she understands what happened.
Vanessa replied:
And Gloria?
Give her the lake property and a ceremonial board title. She only needs to feel important.
Gloria stared at her son.
Daniel had used his mother too.

Daniel answered:
Once I control the company, none of them matter.
The relatives who defended him became silent.
Claire felt no pleasure.
Daniel had built loyalty by making each person believe they would benefit from her removal.
He never intended to share power.
Morales placed him under formal arrest.
Vanessa and Gloria were detained for questioning.
As officers led Daniel away, he looked back at Claire.
