Chapter 1 - Everyone Saw You

“Stay down.”
David’s fist tightened in Maya’s hair.
He forced her forward until her face hovered inches above the white tablecloth. Wine trembled inside crystal glasses. A plate shattered somewhere behind them, but no one in the crowded Beverly Hills restaurant moved.
Maya’s champagne-colored dress twisted around her knees.
Her hands gripped the chair as pain burned across her scalp. Tears blurred the faces of strangers staring from every table.
Rebecca remained seated.
David’s mother calmly adjusted the pearls around her neck, watching her son humiliate his wife as though he were correcting a disobedient employee.
“A wife learns respect,” Rebecca said.
David had chosen a public restaurant for a reason.
He believed Maya would be too ashamed to fight back.
He believed her mother, Elena, cared too much about appearances to involve the police.
Elena stood beside the table in a white suit, holding her phone.
For one terrible second, Maya feared David was right.
Then Elena inhaled.
The shock disappeared from her face.
Something colder replaced it.
Maya raised her eyes toward her mother through her tears.
Elena placed the phone on the table.
The screen displayed an active emergency call.
“Take your hand off her.”
David glanced at the phone.
His smile vanished, but his fingers remained tangled in Maya’s hair.
“This is a family matter.”
“No,” Elena said. “It became a crime when you touched her.”
Above them, the security camera’s red light blinked.
At the reception desk, the restaurant manager watched the live feed and ordered an employee to secure the side exits.
A waiter near the bar was already recording.
Other guests slowly raised their phones.
David finally released Maya.
She nearly fell.
Elena caught her and pulled her behind her body.
Rebecca rose from her chair.
“You are making a spectacle of us.”
Elena looked around the room.
“No. Your son did that.”
Sirens began sounding beyond the restaurant windows.
David stared at the camera above him.
Then at the dozens of witnesses surrounding the table.
His face turned pale.
Elena held Maya upright and looked directly at him.
“Everyone saw you.”
Police lights flashed across the front windows.
But David’s public assault was not the beginning of the nightmare.
May you like
It was the moment a six-month plan to steal Maya’s home, money and identity finally collapsed in front of witnesses he could not silence.
👉 To understand why David attacked Maya in public, the police would first have to uncover the document he had hidden beneath Rebecca’s dinner plate.
