Chapter 9 - Fire at the River

Police surrounded the warehouse quietly.

Adrian was ordered to remain in the command vehicle.

He refused.

“That evidence belongs to my daughter.”

“And armed suspects may be inside,” Quinn said. “You will stay here.”

Smoke appeared behind the warehouse windows.

Quinn swore and ordered the tactical team forward.

Inside, Graham and Martin stood beside a metal barrel filled with burning documents.

Marissa, Celeste’s missing assistant, was tied to a chair.

She had taken the package because Celeste ordered her to destroy it.

Instead, she opened it.

When she realized it contained evidence of murder and fraud, she tried to contact police.

Graham caught her first.

The tactical team entered through two doors.

Martin dropped to his knees immediately.

Graham grabbed Marissa and held a knife near her throat.

“Back away!”

Quinn kept her weapon trained on him.

“You have nowhere to go.”

“I have money everywhere.”

“You also have police everywhere.”

Graham dragged Marissa toward a loading exit.

She slammed her heel onto his foot and threw herself sideways.

Officers tackled him.

The knife skidded beneath a pallet.

Martin watched in silence as both men were handcuffed.

Fire crews extinguished the barrel.

Most documents were damaged.

But Marissa had hidden Lily’s package inside a ventilation duct before Graham restrained her.

She told Quinn where to find it.

The brown envelope was smoke-stained but intact.

Adrian opened it with shaking hands.

Inside was a flash drive, a handwritten ledger summary, and one final letter.

Dad, if this reaches you, I need you to understand that I never wanted your money. I wanted my son to know he came from someone who fought for the truth.

Adrian stopped reading.

He could not breathe.

Noah had spent nights hungry while Celeste wore diamonds purchased with stolen company funds.

His grandson had walked barefoot through the city carrying proof that could have saved them both.

Quinn inserted the flash drive into an evidence laptop.

It contained account records, audio files, and photographs.

But one encrypted folder remained locked.

The password hint contained only two words:

Noah’s birthday.

No one at the warehouse knew the date.

Only Noah did.

And when Adrian called the hospital, the officer guarding his room said the child had vanished.

👉 The evidence was finally safe, but Noah had disappeared from a locked hospital floor—and only one person knew the secret exit Celeste’s family had used.
