Chapter 7 - The Syringe beside the Bed

Noah screamed.
The officer outside rushed in as the fake nurse grabbed his arm.
The syringe struck the mattress instead of his skin.
She tried to escape through the bathroom, but hospital security blocked the corridor.
Within seconds, she was handcuffed.
Her name was Vivian Mercer.
Celeste’s older sister.
The syringe contained a powerful sedative. The dose was dangerous for a child Noah’s size.
Vivian insisted she only wanted to “calm him down.”
Detective Quinn did not believe her.
Neither did Adrian.
He reached the hospital moments later and found Noah curled beneath the blankets, staring at the puncture mark in the mattress.
Adrian knelt beside him.
“I’m sorry.”
Noah’s lips shook.
“Mom said rich people could make bad things disappear.”
Adrian lowered his head.
“Your mother was right.”
Noah looked at him.
“But I won’t let them make you disappear.”
It was a promise Adrian intended to keep, even if it cost him everything.
Vivian’s phone contained messages from Celeste.
One had been sent forty minutes after the restaurant lockdown.
Get the boy before Adrian hears the rest.
Another read:
If he has Lily’s key, Graham is exposed.
Quinn showed the message to Adrian.
“What key?”
Noah heard them.
He touched the locket.
“My mom said it opened something.”
Adrian examined it closely.
The locket’s chain clasp was unusually thick.
Elias used a small tool to unscrew the clasp.
Inside was a narrow brass key.
Stamped on it were three numbers: 417.
Adrian knew the number.
Locker 417 had belonged to Lily at the private train station near Vale Tower. She had used it as a teenager to store dance shoes and books when traveling between school and the city.
The locker facility still existed.
Adrian, Quinn, and Elias drove there under police escort.
Locker 417 had not been opened in eleven years.
The brass key turned.
Inside was a child’s blue backpack, a broken phone, and a digital recorder wrapped in plastic.
There was also a photograph of Lily standing beside Daniel.
On the back, she had written:
If Dad hears this, he’ll know who destroyed us.
Quinn pressed play.
Celeste’s voice filled the empty station corridor.
“You can leave quietly, Lily—or I can make your father believe you buried his company with your theft.”
Then Lily’s voice answered.
“I already copied every transfer.”
A third voice interrupted.
Graham’s.
May you like
“You won’t live long enough to use it.”
👉 Lily had recorded the conspiracy before she disappeared—but the final minutes of the recording revealed that someone Adrian still trusted had helped Celeste carry it out.
