Adrian connected the gala pin to Sarah’s encrypted phone.
A hidden frequency appeared.
The transmitter had sent data through three relay stations.
One belonged to the Vance estate.
One to Sterling Health.
The third was located at a private rehabilitation center near the Massachusetts border.
Catherine saw the location populate.
She pressed the remote again.
Nothing happened.
Adrian had jammed it.
Sarah gave Helen the facility coordinates and instructed her to contact a trusted federal response team.
Elias laughed.
“You think federal agents are not already ours?”
Sarah activated an emergency protocol on her phone.
This time, the signal did not go through normal channels.
Twenty-two years earlier, Blackout created a dead-man network of retired investigators, judges, journalists, and foreign financial monitors.
The network had never been fully dismantled.
Daniel’s file contained the activation key.
Sarah pressed it.
Every device connected to the ballroom cameras began uploading encrypted evidence to multiple independent locations.
Catherine’s face finally changed.
“You don’t know what you released.”
“No,” Sarah said. “You don’t know who receives it.”
Phones around the ballroom began vibrating.
Guests saw blurred alerts.
News organizations had received preliminary evidence packets.
Financial regulators received account ledgers.
Federal inspectors received names of compromised officials.
The gala was no longer isolated.
Catherine stepped toward Maya.
Sarah moved between them.
“You will not use her again.”
Catherine lowered the remote.
“I loved her.”
“Love without truth is control.”
Elias attempted to reach a service door.
The lock held.
Arthur sat against the wall, suddenly old and defeated.
Jonathan remained beside Maya but did not touch her.
Adrian’s radio crackled.
The response team reached the Massachusetts facility.
Daniel had been found alive.
But his room was empty.
A staff member said he had been moved thirty minutes earlier.
The transport order carried Catherine’s authorization.
Catherine looked genuinely surprised.
Someone else had taken him.
The network had another active player.
And that player had known Sarah would restart Blackout tonight.
