Catherine claimed Daniel had been held for fourteen years in a private medical facility.
Not as a prisoner in chains.
As a patient under a false identity.
After staging his death, she helped him disappear.
Daniel planned to return once Sarah and Maya were safe.
Then he discovered Catherine’s role in the safe-house attack.
He tried to expose her.
She drugged him.
A brain injury during the struggle left him with severe memory loss.
Catherine placed him in a facility controlled by Sterling Health.
Arthur financed it.
Elias provided false records.
Daniel lived, but he did not know his own name.
Sarah wanted to believe it was another manipulation.
Catherine opened her phone.
A blurred live video showed an older man sitting beside a window.
His hair was gray.
A scar crossed his temple.
On one hand was the pale indentation of a missing wedding ring.
Sarah recognized the way he tapped two fingers against his knee.
Daniel had done it whenever he was thinking.
Maya covered her mouth.
“Dad?”
The man did not react.
Catherine said the facility would be destroyed if the Blackout file uploaded.
Sarah looked at her encrypted phone.
No active upload existed.
Catherine believed there was one.
Adrian moved subtly toward the ballroom control panel.
Sarah kept Catherine talking.
“Where is he?”
“Safe.”
“Where?”
“You surrender both devices. I give you the location.”
Elias protested.
“You said the file would be destroyed.”
Catherine turned on him.
“You were paid to control the room.”
Their alliance fractured openly.
Arthur Sterling emerged from the elevator with Adrian behind him.
His hands remained restrained.
When Arthur saw Catherine, he said:
“She will kill Daniel whether you surrender or not.”
Catherine pressed the remote.
One chandelier went dark.
A warning.
Maya tried to stand.
Sarah ordered her to remain seated.
Then Jonathan touched his blinking gala pin.
He finally understood it transmitted more than audio.
It carried location data.
His father’s private network could be traced backward through it.
Jonathan removed the pin and handed it to Sarah.
“This may lead to the facility.”
Arthur called him a traitor.
Jonathan looked at Maya.
“No. I’m finished being useful.”
