Chapter 11 - THE BRIDE IN GRACE’S HOME
White flowers covered the ballroom.
Grace recognized the crystal candleholders from her own wedding.
Sabrina had worn Grace’s grandmother’s diamond earrings.
The earrings had been stored inside the mountain house safe.
Ethan stood beneath the arch where he had once promised Grace lifelong loyalty.
A portrait of Eleanor Holloway had been removed from the wall.
In its place hung a gold sign:
THE COLE FAMILY LEGACY.
Grace’s grief became something colder.
This was not merely a wedding.
It was an occupation.
Margaret sent the message to Detective Reed.
The officers entered through the rear corridor.
Then Grace opened the ballroom doors.
The guests turned.
Ethan’s mouth fell open.
Sabrina collapsed onto the floor.
“What are you doing here?” Ethan demanded.
Grace walked toward him with Lily sleeping against her chest.
“You left us in the snow.”
“She’s lying,” Sabrina cried. “Grace, you were sick. Ethan tried to save you.”
Grace lifted her phone.
“You forgot the camera.”
The doorbell footage began playing on the ballroom’s projection screen.
No one had planned that part except Grace and the audiovisual technician, an employee loyal to Eleanor’s memory.
The room watched Ethan drag Grace to the door.
They heard Lily crying.
They watched him shove them outside.
Then they watched him lock the door.
A woman in the front row stood and moved away from him.
Ethan looked toward the exits.
Police were already there.
Detective Reed received the video on his tablet.
“That’s enough.”
Grace raised the handcuffs Reed had given her outside the doors.
She held them toward him.
Sabrina began crawling backward across the marble.
Margaret opened the ownership folder.
Ethan whispered, “You’re legally dead.”
Grace stepped onto the altar platform.
“I’m taking back everything.”
The evidence release began.
Phones vibrated across the ballroom.
Then Victor Hale, the attorney seated in the second row, attempted to slip through a side door.
