Chapter 11 - THE SUITCASE IN SABRINA’S CLOSET
Police searched Sabrina’s apartment.
A suitcase waited near the bedroom door.
Inside were cash, jewelry, encrypted drives, and original Heritage Consulting ledgers.
Sabrina had planned to leave before the Crestland closing appeared in public records.
One drive contained voice notes from Vivian.
Destroy the vendor contracts after Daniel signs.
Move the remaining balance before Claire’s audit committee meets.
If Claire announces anything medical, question her stability.
The final instruction was recorded one hour before the anniversary dinner.
Keep her away from Daniel until the papers are signed.
Sabrina had followed that order by repeatedly calling Claire away from the table.
She asked her to check a flower arrangement.
Then a seating issue.
Then a supposed call from the doctor.
Claire refused to leave because she wanted to give Daniel the spoon.
Sabrina’s plan failed.
Vivian acted herself.
Under questioning, Sabrina began cooperating.
She admitted managing Heritage accounts.
She claimed Vivian controlled everything.
The financial records showed Sabrina personally benefited.
She purchased an apartment in Paris and paid off gambling debts.
She also admitted accessing Claire’s medical appointments.
“Did you know your sister-in-law was pregnant at the dinner?” the prosecutor asked.
“No. I knew there was an obstetric appointment.”
“Did your mother know?”
“She knew the same.”
“Then you both knew pregnancy was possible.”
Sabrina cried.
“She thought Claire was using it to delay the sale.”
The prosecutor leaned closer.
“Your mother kicked her in the abdomen.”
Sabrina lowered her eyes.
“I know.”
Her cooperation recovered eleven million dollars.
It also linked Crestland executives to the hidden participation fund.
Vivian remained defiant.
From jail, she called Daniel through her attorney.
He declined.
She sent a letter instead.
I sacrificed my entire life for Bellamy House. Claire arrived and decided everything I built was corruption.
Daniel gave the letter to his therapist.
He did not answer.
Claire received her own letter.
Vivian wrote:
You have always wanted to separate my son from his family. Those children are your final weapon.
Claire placed the letter in the prosecution file.
The twins moved during her next ultrasound.
Daniel saw both tiny legs on the monitor.
“They’re not weapons,” he whispered.
