Chapter 9 - THE PARTY WITHOUT MUSIC
Adrian ordered the gates closed.
Guests protested.
He did not physically detain anyone.
He instructed security to preserve identities, videos, and property records before people left.
Marcus entered carrying a tablet.
The engagement trust had been frozen.
Monroe Holdings’ emergency facility was suspended.
A preservation notice had been sent to every bank involved in the community-housing company.
Celeste followed Adrian into the house.
“You are destroying my family because your mother fell into a fountain.”
“You pushed her.”
“She insulted me.”
“That would not justify touching her.”
“She came to accuse my father during our engagement.”
Adrian held up the wet document.
“Did she sign this?”
Celeste looked away.
“Answer me.”
“It was handled by legal.”
“Did she sign it?”
“I assumed she had.”
Elena entered wearing a blanket provided by a housekeeper.
Her wet dress clung to her legs, but she stood straight.
“No one asked me.”
Charles joined them.
“This conversation should happen privately.”
Marcus shook his head.
“It will happen with counsel present.”
Charles turned toward Adrian.
“Your mother inspired the housing project. Her name was used symbolically.”
“Her Social Security number is not symbolic.”
“The paperwork can be corrected.”
“The loan already funded.”
Charles lowered his voice.
“If you suspend our credit now, Monroe Holdings could default.”
Adrian looked at him.
“That is why you needed the forged guarantee.”
“It was not forged.”
Elena opened the legal-clinic email on her phone.
The signature expert’s preliminary report showed obvious copying from an old church-donation form.
Celeste saw it.
“You hired lawyers behind Adrian’s back?”
Elena looked at her.
“I protected my name after you refused to remove it.”
Celeste’s anger returned.
“You have spent your entire life making Adrian feel responsible for you.”
Adrian stepped between them.
“My mother refused every house, allowance, and public title I offered.”
Celeste laughed bitterly.
“That’s how she controls you. She stays poor so you can never stop proving you love her.”
Elena’s expression changed.
The accusation revealed how deeply Celeste misunderstood sacrifice.
Adrian took off his engagement ring.
He placed it on the table.
Celeste stared at it.
“You’re ending everything because she said no?”
“No,” Adrian replied. “I’m ending it because you believed her no didn’t matter.”
He ordered Celeste and Charles removed from the estate.
Before leaving, Charles issued one warning.
“If Monroe Holdings falls, your company falls with it.”
Marcus waited until the doors closed.
Then he showed Adrian the first audit result.
Ruiz Global had unknowingly guaranteed two Monroe loans through a document carrying Adrian’s signature.
