Chapter 7 - The Sealed Tube

Helen did not drive directly to the hospital.
The advocate had warned her that Grant might use Lily’s medical authorization to interfere before independent evidence was collected.
Instead, she drove to a county forensic clinic twelve minutes away.
Nurse Paige Lang was waiting.
Lily could barely stay conscious.
Her pulse was slow.
Bruises covered her arms and legs.
A small puncture mark appeared beneath her damaged hospital bracelet.
Paige photographed every visible injury.
She collected blood and urine under a formal chain-of-custody procedure.
One sample entered the clinic’s secure evidence refrigerator.
A second sealed transfer tube was prepared for St. Catherine’s emergency laboratory.
Paige placed it inside a tamper-evident pouch and handed it to Helen.
“Do not give this to anyone connected to Vale Meridian.”
Before they could finish, Grant’s SUV entered the clinic parking lot.
Paige locked the examination-room door.
Grant pounded on the front entrance and demanded his wife.
He showed security a medical authorization naming him as Lily’s representative.
The document looked valid.
Paige called the police.
But Grant’s attorneys contacted the clinic administrator and threatened legal action for interfering with psychiatric treatment.
Lily panicked.
“They’ll send me back.”
Helen held her face.
“Look at me. We’re going to St. Catherine.”
Paige led them through a rear employee exit.
An advocate drove while Helen held Lily in the back seat.
Grant followed.
At the hospital entrance, Lily collapsed completely.
Helen carried as much of her weight as she could while staff rushed outside with a wheelchair.
That was when Lily begged her not to send her back.
Grant entered moments later.
He immediately ordered the doctors not to draw blood.
He thought stopping the hospital test would erase proof of what had been administered at Willow Crest.
He did not know Paige had already collected it.
He did not know Dr. Wells had placed an alert on Lily’s name.
May you like
And he did not know Helen was carrying the sample beneath her coat.
👉 The moment Dr. Wells saw the preliminary result, Lily’s psychiatric case became a potential poisoning investigation.
