Detective Ruiz and state health investigators moved quickly.
Emergency court orders allowed independent physicians to evaluate the four women listed as active.
One was a retired school principal whose nephew wanted control of her apartment buildings.
Another was the wife of a Vale Meridian executive preparing to report billing fraud.
The third had inherited land beside a planned medical campus.
The fourth was only thirty-two.
Her husband claimed she suffered from delusions after childbirth.
Independent testing found all four heavily sedated.
Two had medications in their systems that did not appear on official charts.
All four denied consenting to treatment.
Willow Crest staff attempted to move patients before investigators arrived.
Dr. Pierce disappeared.
Grant remained outside Lily’s hospital room, surrounded by attorneys.
He continued telling reporters that his wife was seriously ill and had been manipulated by her mother.
Vivian released a statement describing Helen as financially desperate.
“She has spent years resenting the Vale family,” the statement claimed. “She is exploiting Lily’s medical crisis for money.”
Helen read the statement while icing cupcakes in the bakery kitchen.
Her hands shook.
Not because she believed it.
Because she knew some people would.
Grant understood reputation.
He wore tailored suits.
He funded hospital wings.
Helen wore flour on her sleeves and lived above a shop.
Lily called from the hospital.
“You don’t have to answer them.”
“They’re attacking you through me.”
“I know who you are.”
“That has to be enough for tonight.”
The following morning, Helen stood outside St. Catherine with Detective Ruiz and Dr. Wells.
She did not discuss Grant’s wealth.
She did not defend her bakery.
She held up Lily’s original medical records and the sealed chain-of-custody report.
“My daughter asked for help,” she said. “Her husband answered by writing an illness around her. These records show who changed the story. Her blood shows what they put inside her.”
The press conference spread nationally.
Former Vale Meridian patients began calling investigators.
Families brought documents.
Nurses submitted anonymous reports.
One caller knew where Dr. Pierce was hiding.
But she wanted protection before giving the address.
