Chapter 11 - THE LIE ABOUT ISABELLA’S NAME
The letter came from a former Vale employee.
It claimed Catherine had become pregnant during a separation from Richard.
Marcus’s attorneys argued that Isabella had never been legally eligible to inherit under the trust’s “direct descendant” clause.
Vivian told reporters Isabella was an opportunist exploiting an injured man.
For twenty-four hours, every headline questioned whether Richard was truly Isabella’s father.
Isabella pretended it did not hurt.

As a child, she had sometimes wondered why Richard struggled to show affection after Catherine died.

“No. This is about them making you ask whether you belong.”

Seated beside Isabella, Richard faced the cameras.
“I do not care what a laboratory says. Isabella is my daughter because I have loved her, failed her, raised her and prayed for the chance to ask her forgiveness.”
Then Daniel produced Catherine’s original drafting notes.
The trust defined “daughter” by name.

Catherine had anticipated attempts to weaponize blood.
Vivian’s claim failed instantly.
But Isabella still completed the DNA test privately.

The result confirmed Richard was her biological father.
When she showed him, he smiled sadly.
“I told you it changed nothing.”
“It changes one thing.”
“What?”
“It proves they lied again.”
Investigators traced the paternity letter to a consultant paid by Marcus.
The former employee had signed it after receiving $30,000.
That payment came from a company account Marcus was prohibited from using.
The attempted challenge became further evidence of obstruction and fraud.
Meanwhile, lenders reviewed Vale Preservation Group’s hidden debts.
Marcus had transferred nearly $46 million into projects owned through shell companies.
Some had never existed.
The company faced collapse unless Isabella could recover the money.
