Chapter 8 - The Morning Noah Arrived

Noah was born at 6:18 a.m.
For several terrifying seconds, Claire heard nothing.
Then a small cry filled the operating room.
She began sobbing.
A nurse held him close enough for Claire to see his dark hair, wrinkled forehead and furious little mouth.
“He’s beautiful,” Claire whispered.
Daniel was invited into recovery.
He arrived twenty-three minutes later.
Emily had recorded the time.
He looked at Noah briefly, then asked the nurse when Claire would be able to sign documents.
The nurse stared at him.
“She just had major abdominal surgery.”
“I’m asking when she’ll be alert.”
“She is alert.”
Daniel glanced at Claire.
“Clearly not enough for business.”
Claire held Noah against her chest during skin-to-skin contact.
Daniel took a photograph.
He posted it online with the caption:
Mother and son are resting. I’m handling everything until Claire recovers.
Within minutes, board members began sending him supportive messages.
He had created the first public record of his temporary control.
Sabrina emailed the board announcing that Daniel would chair an emergency meeting at nine.
Attached was the forged maternity leave declaration.
Tessa intercepted the email and warned Claire.
But they still needed Daniel to present the forged documents as genuine.
If he claimed Sabrina uploaded them without authorization, he might escape responsibility.
Claire asked Emily to leave the room briefly.
Then she called Daniel closer.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
He studied her face.
“For what?”
“For fighting you.”
His shoulders relaxed.
“I know you were scared.”
“The company needs stability.”
“Yes.”
Claire let her voice weaken.
“Bring the papers after I rest.”
Daniel smiled.
He kissed her forehead.
For the first time since arriving at the hospital, he looked pleased.
“You’re making the right decision.”
He stepped into the hallway and called Sabrina.
Claire activated her phone recorder beneath the blanket.
“She’ll sign before nine,” Daniel said. “Tell the developer we’re closing today.”
Sabrina’s voice came through the speaker.
“And Margaret House?”
“Once I control the board, the charity restrictions disappear.”
“What about the audit?”
“Claire will take the blame. Every questionable payment was approved through her account.”
Claire stopped recording.
The pain in her abdomen was nothing compared with the coldness spreading through her chest.
Daniel planned to steal the company, sell her mother’s center and leave her responsible for his crimes.
She sent the recording to Tessa.
Then she asked Emily to bring the black folder from the hospital bag.
Daniel believed Claire had surrendered.

In reality, she had just obtained his confession.
👉 Daniel returned with the transfer papers expecting a signature, unaware that Claire had recorded him assigning every stolen dollar to her name.
