Chapter 13 - The Other Child

Tessa asked security to remain outside while Claire learned the truth.
Daniel stood near the window.
He would not look at her.
“Who is Lily Ross?”
“She has nothing to do with this.”
“Three million stolen dollars say otherwise.”
Daniel pressed both hands against the windowsill.
“Her mother and I were together before you.”
Claire waited.
Daniel finally admitted that Lily was his daughter.
She had been born one year before he met Claire.
The child’s mother, Rachel Ross, lived in Virginia.
Daniel had never told Claire because he claimed Rachel wanted privacy.
But bank records showed something different.
For years, Daniel had paid almost nothing in formal child support.
After joining Haven House, he began sending large sums through shell companies.
He purchased Rachel a house.
He created a trust for Lily.
The money came from Haven House.
Claire felt sick.
“You stole from postpartum patients to support a child you hid from me?”
“I was trying to make up for lost time.”
“With someone else’s money.”
“You would never have understood.”
“I would have understood that you had a daughter.”
Daniel’s eyes filled with anger.
“No. You would have judged me.”
Claire looked down at Noah.
Daniel had hidden Lily because the truth would expose the image he had created.
Devoted husband.
First-time father.
Responsible executive.
He had chosen secrecy, then used stolen money to maintain it.
But Tessa noticed something else.
NLR Family Holdings had been created only eight months earlier.
The initials stood for Noah, Lily and Rachel.
Daniel had planned a future that included his hidden daughter, her mother and Claire’s unborn son.
Not Claire.
Maya found a draft custody proposal in Daniel’s cloud account.
After Claire was declared unstable, Daniel intended to seek temporary custody of Noah.
He planned to move both children into the house purchased for Rachel.
Sabrina did not know about Rachel.
Rachel did not know about Sabrina.
Daniel had promised each woman a different future.
Claire had been useful because she controlled Haven House.
Sabrina was useful because she helped move money.
Rachel was useful because she represented the family he claimed he had been denied.
No one in Daniel’s life had received the complete truth.
Tessa contacted Rachel through her attorney.
Rachel was horrified.
Daniel had told her the money came from legitimate bonuses.
He also told her Claire planned to abandon Noah after birth because she cared only about her career.
Rachel agreed to provide every message and financial record.
Daniel had expected his lies to remain separated.

👉 Daniel’s hidden daughter explained where part of the money went, but Rachel’s messages exposed the cruel plan he had prepared for Noah before the baby was even born.
