Chapter 7 - The Wedding as a Deadline
Celeste moved the fraudulent transfers faster as the wedding approached.
She knew Vale Capital’s annual audit would begin shortly afterward.
By then, Nolan needed Elena’s signature on the waiver.
The document was hidden inside the wedding trust package.
It appeared to confirm ordinary marital property arrangements.
In reality, it gave Nolan voting influence over Elena’s beneficial interests and weakened Vale Capital’s misconduct protections.
Elena found the draft inside his home office.
Beneath it was an email from Celeste.
Get her signature before the ceremony if possible. Afterward, she may ask her father to review.
Nolan replied:
She won’t risk canceling the wedding in front of everyone.
Elena sat alone in the dark reading the message.
He understood her shame.
He planned to use it publicly.
She forwarded the file to the attorney.
The legal team advised her to leave immediately.
Elena refused.
“If I disappear now, Celeste destroys the remaining records.”
“We can subpoena them.”
“She controls the servers.”
“Elena, this is no longer an audit.”
“I know.”
The attorney asked whether Daniel knew about the violence.
“No.”
“He should.”
“I will tell him when I’m ready.”
Elena’s decision was not entirely rational.
Part of her still wanted Nolan to stop.
To confess.
To choose the woman he claimed to love over the company scheme.
Another part needed enough evidence that no one could dismiss her as a frightened bride acting under her father’s influence.
The wedding created a natural deadline.
Investors, directors, auditors and both families would be in one room.
Elena proposed turning the ceremony into a controlled disclosure.
The attorney objected strongly.
Daniel would never approve.
“That is why you’re not telling him yet.”
Security investigators prepared to preserve the ballroom.
Financial investigators assembled the shell invoices.
The audio system was linked to the encrypted pendant account.
One command from Elena would transmit the latest recording to the legal team.
If Nolan remained calm and signed a formal preservation agreement, the ceremony could end privately.
If he threatened or assaulted her, the evidence would become immediate.
The attorney asked, “What is your command?”
