Chapter 10 - The Ballroom Became a Boardroom
The Mercer Holdings directors were already inside the ballroom.
They had been invited as honored wedding guests.
The Vale attorney asked them to move into an adjoining conference room.
Nolan refused.
“You cannot conduct a board meeting at my wedding.”
Daniel answered, “There is no wedding.”
Elena remained near the altar while a female investigator photographed her visible injuries.
A doctor attending as a guest examined the cut near her mouth and advised immediate treatment.
Nolan attempted to approach.
Security stopped him.
“I need to speak to my fiancée.”
Elena looked at him.
“No.”
It was the first refusal he could not punish privately.
Celeste argued that the invoices were legitimate consulting expenses.
The forensic team projected the ownership records onto the ballroom screen.
Silver Hall Advisory belonged to her.
North Mercer Development was controlled by Nolan.
Strategic Arc transferred money into both companies before sending part of it back to private accounts.
The wedding itself had received more than two million dollars from false renovation invoices.
Guests looked at the flowers, chandeliers and champagne with new understanding.
They were standing inside evidence.
Then the misconduct clause appeared.
Vale Capital could suspend funding and nominate emergency directors if Mercer executives used protected assets for fraud, coercion or personal enrichment.
The board voted to suspend Nolan and Celeste pending investigation.
Nolan shouted that Elena had betrayed him.
She answered quietly.
“You bruised me because I refused to help you steal.”
He looked toward Daniel.
“You planned this from the beginning.”
Daniel almost responded.
Elena stopped him.
“This was my plan.”
That mattered.
Nolan had spent months describing her as a daughter controlled by a powerful father.
In front of every investor, Elena claimed her own decision.
The police arrived after the venue doctor reported the injuries and the attorney provided the recordings.
Nolan was questioned separately.
He claimed Elena’s bruise came from falling in the bridal suite.
The pendant captured his slap.
Celeste claimed she had tried to calm him.
