Chapter 6 - THE SECRET EXIT PLAN
Richard brought only two people into the plan.
Nora Ellis, the attorney who managed Evelyn’s trust.
Olivia Reed, a trauma nurse trained to document injuries and help survivors leave dangerous homes safely.
Evelyn met them in a quiet examination room at a community clinic.
Olivia did not ask why she stayed.
She asked what made leaving dangerous.
“Daniel controls the house security,” Evelyn said.
“He tracks my car.”
“He checks my phone.”
“He has documents saying I’m unstable.”
Nora examined the photographs from Daniel’s office.
“This guardianship petition is fraudulent.”
“Can he still file it?”
“Yes. A lie can create damage before it is disproved.”
They created a layered plan.
Nora placed emergency restrictions on the company shares. No proxy, transfer or major vote could occur without an in-person verification witnessed by independent counsel.
Richard arranged for the trust to notify him if Daniel accessed corporate files.
Olivia documented the older bruises confidentially.
Evelyn received a hidden phone with automatic location sharing.
They chose one phrase.
You were right.
If Evelyn said it, Richard would treat the situation as an immediate emergency.
A legal team would freeze accounts and company authority.
Olivia would provide medical documentation.
Police would be sent to the property.
Evelyn resisted the police plan.
“I don’t want Daniel arrested because of one argument.”
Olivia looked at her gently.
“You are still protecting him from consequences he is choosing.”
Evelyn looked away.
Nora added one more safeguard.
A vehicle would wait near the estate whenever Daniel appeared close to forcing a signature.
Evelyn only needed to send a single period from the hidden phone.
For six weeks, she gathered evidence.
She copied messages between Daniel and Vanessa.
She recorded Daniel admitting Halcyon expected the proxy.
She photographed forged signatures.
Then Daniel discovered that the trust had blocked his access.
He became colder.
Vanessa began visiting openly.
They no longer bothered hiding their intimacy.
On the night of the assault, Daniel invited Vanessa to dinner and placed a transfer agreement beside Evelyn’s plate.
“Sign tonight,” he said.
Evelyn refused.
Vanessa poured herself another glass of wine.
