Chapter 11 - THE MONEY BEHIND HALCYON

Halcyon Capital denied knowing about the violence.
Its attorneys described Daniel as an independent adviser who exaggerated his influence over Evelyn.
The emails said otherwise.
A Halcyon executive wrote:
Spousal resistance must be resolved before Tuesday.
Daniel replied:
The medical route is ready if she refuses voluntary transfer.
Another executive responded with a single word:
Proceed.
Halcyon planned to purchase Bennett Technologies for less than half its independent valuation.
After the acquisition, it would sell the medical-device patent to a multinational corporation and close two American manufacturing plants.
More than eight hundred employees would lose their jobs.
Daniel would receive a $20 million success fee.
Vanessa’s shell company would receive $12 million for “strategic compliance services.”
Richard would be removed from the board.
Evelyn’s shares would be converted into cash under Daniel’s control.
The plan explained everything.
The isolation.
The affair.
The fake psychiatric records.
The assault.
Evelyn was the majority owner of a company Daniel could not reach honestly.
So he turned marriage into a private acquisition strategy.
The financial investigation expanded.
Detective Morales brought in federal authorities because Halcyon’s executives had transmitted forged documents across state lines.
Nora traced payments through Vanessa’s shell companies.
Several came from Daniel’s investment fund.
The fund had lost almost $30 million.
Daniel concealed the losses by using new investor money to satisfy earlier withdrawals.
If the Halcyon deal failed, the fraud would surface.
He did not only want wealth.
He needed the sale to avoid prison.
Vanessa knew.
Her messages showed she had helped alter investor reports.
She was not simply a mistress enjoying Evelyn’s humiliation.
She was Daniel’s partner in the failing fund and the proposed takeover.
On the night of the assault, she had not been present for entertainment.
She was there to ensure Evelyn signed before the fund’s auditors arrived Monday morning.
The deadline had nothing to do with a company vote alone.

Daniel and Vanessa were hours away from exposure.
👉 The takeover was meant to bury Daniel’s investment fraud, but one recovered recording revealed Vanessa had been planning to sacrifice him too.
