Chapter 9 - Rosa’s Ledger

Elena retrieved the ledger from a bank box registered in Rosa’s name.

She brought Miriam and a federal financial investigator.

Dante attended with Julian.

Nicholas Rizzo was not informed.

The ledger documented payments made after the Moretti estate attack.

Richard Vale paid Rosa to disappear with Elena.

He also paid a police commander to classify Elena as presumed dead.

Another payment went to Nicholas Rizzo.

The amount was far larger.

Beside it, Rosa had written:

Gate schedule. Sofia’s audit. Child location not disclosed.

Nicholas had given Richard access to the estate and information about Sofia Moretti’s investigation.

But Rosa’s note suggested Nicholas did not know she had saved Elena.

Dante stared at the payment.

“He opened the gates.”

Elena watched him carefully.

“What will you do?”

His jaw tightened.

The old Dante might have summoned Nicholas to a warehouse.

Elena could see that instinct fighting inside him.

“Call the authorities,” she said.

“He murdered our parents.”

“Then prove it.”

“Our family handled betrayal differently.”

“And that difference kept the truth hidden for twenty-two years.”

Dante looked at her.

She continued.

“If you kill him, people will call Rosa’s ledger a mafia dispute. If he is prosecuted, the evidence survives both of you.”

Julian supported her.

Dante reluctantly agreed.

The investigator requested surveillance and financial subpoenas.

Nicholas remained unaware.

Further review connected his old payment to Silver Fountain Consulting.

Richard Vale and Nicholas used the same shell company that Nathan and Victoria later revived.

The company had served as a private channel between the Vale and Moretti organizations for decades.

It paid corrupt officials.

Moved stolen funds.

Purchased silence.

Nathan had found the dormant structure after Richard’s death and used it for employee-benefit theft.

He may not have known the full history.

Victoria did.

Her signature appeared on several old renewals.

Elena understood why Victoria reacted so violently.

The waitress copying modern invoices could eventually reach the original records.

Ripping Elena’s uniform had not been only arrogance.

It was panic.

A federal team prepared warrants.

Before they could execute them, Nicholas called Dante.

“I hear you found the girl.”

Dante’s face changed.

Only a few people knew the DNA result.

Someone had warned him.

Nicholas continued.

“Bring Elena home. We should discuss what Rosa told her.”

Elena shook her head.

Dante placed the call on speaker.

Nicholas’s voice softened.

“Family matters should stay inside the family.”

Elena recognized Richard Vale’s method in those words.

Privacy.

Control.

Silence.

Dante answered, “You stopped being family when you opened the gate.”

Nicholas ended the call.

Within minutes, he disappeared from his residence.

👉 Nicholas fled before police arrived, and Nathan’s private jet was already preparing to leave from a Vale Crest hangar.
