Chapter 7 - The Jacket and the Police

Dante’s first instinct was visible in his eyes.
Violence.
Every guard around him recognized it.
Victoria did too.
She backed away from Elena and immediately appealed to the rules of his world.
“Dante, this is a misunderstanding. We can handle it privately.”
Elena heard the word privately.
That was how Richard Vale buried the attack.
How Rosa was paid.
How Nathan stole employee money.
How wealthy families turned crimes into arrangements.
“Call the police,” Elena said.
The room looked toward Dante.
The mafia boss had spent his life keeping law enforcement outside family matters.
If he refused, Elena would know he valued tradition more than her safety.
Dante looked at the torn uniform.
Then at the locket.
He nodded.
Julian contacted police.
The restaurant manager preserved the security footage and locked the control-room access.
Victoria attempted to leave.
Security stopped her at the elevator.
“You cannot detain me,” she snapped.
The manager answered, “I can prevent the destruction of restaurant property records until police arrive.”
Nathan approached Dante.
“The investment can still proceed. My mother lost control for one moment.”
Dante turned toward him.
“You watched.”
Nathan’s face tightened.
“I was shocked.”
“You stopped your manager from helping.”
Julian placed the copied financial records on the table.
“And your presentation contains false statements.”
Nathan’s attention moved to Elena.
“You have no idea what you’ve done.”
She held Dante’s jacket closed.
“I know exactly what I prevented.”
Police arrived.
Victoria claimed Elena had attacked her first.
The cameras showed otherwise.
The waiter filming from the service station captured every word.
Victoria was arrested for assault and property damage.
Nathan was not arrested that night.
But financial investigators received Elena’s records.
The Moretti investment stopped immediately.
Vale Crest’s lenders learned the truth before morning.
Dante asked Elena to leave with him.
She refused.
“I don’t know you.”
Pain crossed his face.
“I’m your brother.”
“You may be.”
He looked at the locket.
“How did you get it?”
“My mother put it on me before Rosa took me away.”
Dante’s composure broke for the first time.
“You remember Rosa?”
“I remember enough to fear the people who remained around you.”
Elena told him about the initials N.R.
Nicholas Rizzo.
Dante became still.
Nicholas had been his father’s closest friend.
He had raised Dante after the attack.

And he was waiting at the Moretti estate.
👉 Dante had found the sister he searched for all his life, but her evidence suggested the man who raised him may have helped make her disappear.
