Chapter 29 - Eric’s Last Request
Eric became eligible for supervised release after serving most of his sentence.
Before the hearing, he requested that Lena support early release.
She declined.
His attorney sent one final statement.
Eric claimed he had completed financial-accountability programs and accepted responsibility.
Lena reviewed the statement.
This time, he did not blame Diane.
He admitted creating the false email, forging signatures, and planning the refinance.
He wrote:
I believed being her husband entitled me to what she had. When she resisted, I treated her resistance as betrayal.
Lena believed he might finally understand.
But understanding did not require access to her life.
She submitted a neutral statement.
She did not oppose release if legal conditions protected her.
She requested permanent no-contact restrictions and continued restitution.
The board approved supervised release with those conditions.
Eric moved to another state.

That absence became the most respectful thing he had ever given her.
