Chapter 27 - The Deed on the Table

Before marrying Noah, Lena placed the cream folder on the kitchen island.
She opened it in front of him.
“This house remains mine.”
“I understand.”
“If we renovate, we document contributions.”
“Good.”
“If we separate, you do not claim the trust.”
“Agreed.”
Noah reviewed the prenuptial agreement with his own attorney.
Lena expected him to feel insulted.
Instead, he returned with several suggested protections for her.
He also requested one protection for himself:
If he contributed major funds to renovations, those contributions would be recorded and repayable.
Lena smiled.
“That’s fair.”
Fairness felt different from entitlement.
They signed openly.
No exhaustion.
No hidden pages.
No one waiting until the other was afraid.
On their wedding day, the cream folder remained locked safely away.

The house did not become Noah’s through marriage.
But the home became theirs through respect.
