Chapter 12 - THE SMARTWATCH THAT WOULD NOT DIE

Marcus had kept Oliver’s damaged smartwatch charged after police collected it.
The screen was broken.
The internal storage appeared corrupted.
A digital-forensics specialist recovered health data first.
Oliver’s watch recorded a heartbeat throughout the night Samantha claimed he died.
At 2:15 a.m., his pulse dropped dangerously low.
At 2:47, it remained present.
At 3:18, when Samantha called the funeral home, Oliver’s heart was still beating.
At 7:30, while he was being dressed, the watch recorded movement.
At 11:56, Joyce’s hand touched his chest.
His heart rate increased.
The funeral home had nearly cremated a man whose watch documented life during every stage of his supposed death.
Then the specialist found a short audio file.
Oliver had activated voice recording from his watch at 11:43 p.m.
The recording began with Samantha entering the study.
Her voice was calm.
“You were supposed to take the pills.”
Oliver sounded weak.
“I had them tested.”
A glass struck the desk.
Samantha said, “You should have signed the power of attorney.”
“I filed the board resolution.”
A silence followed.
Then Samantha asked, “With Elena?”
“Yes.”
Oliver’s breathing changed.
“What did you put in the tea?”
Samantha did not answer.
The recording captured a chair falling.
Oliver struggled to speak.
“You’ve been doing this for months.”
Samantha’s voice came closer.
“You were easier to manage when you were sick.”
Joyce covered her mouth.
The audio continued.
A door opened.
Dr. Kent arrived.
He checked Oliver.
Then he said something almost too quiet to hear.
“He still has a pulse.”
Samantha replied, “Will he wake up?”
“Possibly.”
“Then give him more.”
Kent refused at first.
Samantha reminded him that Northstar had paid his debts and that his falsified prescriptions would destroy his career.
A long pause followed.
Then glass clinked.
Oliver made a faint sound.
Kent said, “This could kill him.”
Samantha’s answer silenced everyone in the evidence room.
“That’s the point.”
The recording ended when the watch struck the floor.
Joyce stared through the glass toward her son’s hospital room.
Oliver had been conscious enough to understand.
May you like
He had heard his wife choose cremation over the possibility that he might wake.
👉 The watch captured Samantha’s confession—but Oliver still had to survive long enough to confront the woman who ordered another dose.
