He learned about the Stewardship Trust through confidential restructuring documents.
He told Margaret that Thomas Marlow’s daughter controlled a company worth hundreds of millions.
Margaret researched Elena’s habits.
Her charity work.
Her grief after her mother’s death.
Her reluctance to discuss wealth.
The cloud account contained a document titled APPROACH.
Attend the hospital nutrition conference.
Ask about patient dignity.
Do not mention inheritance.
Present as independent.
Jason followed the plan.
He later wrote notes after dates.
Elena dislikes flashy spending.
She trusts people who respect employees.
Thomas suspicious—gain operational value before engagement.
The words made Elena physically ill when Priya showed her.
She remembered Jason listening carefully during their first dinner.
She had believed that attention meant interest.
It had been research.
Later entries became more complicated.
I think I actually love her.

Jason did not seize everything at once.

Then he removed everyone else.
The marriage had contained real moments.

Quiet mornings.
Elena struggled to understand whether those memories mattered.
Dr. Hill, visiting during a follow-up procedure, offered no legal or therapeutic opinion.
He said only, “A person can feel affection and still make choices that are cruel.”
Elena later discussed it with her counselor.
She did not need to decide which moments were genuine.
The truth of Jason’s private emotions could not outweigh his actions.
He forged signatures.
Drugged her.
Used employees’ medical money.
Helped restrain her while Margaret threw oil.
Then lied beside her hospital bed.
That was enough.
The criminal trial was scheduled for the following spring.
Jason rejected a plea offer.
He planned to argue Margaret acted alone.
Margaret rejected her own offer after learning Jason intended to blame her.
Mother and son prepared to destroy each other in court.
Meanwhile, the Marlow house remained sealed as a crime scene.
When police finally released it, Elena returned to the kitchen.
The stain on the tile had been cleaned.
