Chapter 10 - THE COMMANDER WHO RECEIVED THE REPORT
Colonel Dana Reed had served with Ellie for seven years.
She received Graham’s draft concern report two days before Ellie returned.
It came from a civilian email address and claimed to represent an urgent family safety issue.
Dana did not ignore it.
She also did not accept it without verification.
The report described Ellie as paranoid, aggressive, and obsessed with the belief that someone was stealing her identity.
Attached screenshots showed angry messages supposedly written by Ellie.
Dana compared them with Ellie’s real communications.
The punctuation was wrong.
Ellie never signed personal messages with her rank.
The report also referenced a classified assignment Ellie had never held.
Someone had used public military language without understanding the details.
Dana contacted the Army legal office and preserved the files.
She did not warn Graham.
When Ellie arrived at the company lobby and sent photographs of Celeste, Dana finally understood the purpose of the report.
“They wanted your real evidence to look like symptoms,” she told Ellie.
“Will this affect my clearance?”
“Not because someone made an accusation. But there will be a formal review.”
Ellie nodded.
She had spent her career teaching officers that process mattered.
She would not demand special treatment now.
Dana continued.
“The unauthorized use of your rank and uniformed photographs has been referred to the proper investigators. Your husband’s company also claimed you approved military applications for its technology.”
“I did not.”
“We know.”
“Did they disclose anything classified?”
“Nothing we’ve found. But they implied access they did not have.”
Graham had used Ellie’s name to suggest the company received private military guidance.
That false impression had attracted investors.
It had also silenced engineers who questioned safety testing.
One employee wrote:
COLONEL WHITLOCK HAS REVIEWED THE SYSTEM. MANAGEMENT SAYS FURTHER CONCERNS ARE UNNECESSARY.
Ellie had never seen the system.
The equipment had failed during two field demonstrations.
No one was injured, but the failures had been removed from the federal proposal.
The same proposal carrying Ellie’s forged certification stated that all major safety incidents had been disclosed.
Dana looked at her carefully.
“This is larger than identity theft.”
Ellie understood.
Her name had not simply opened doors.
It had been used to close mouths.
Then a military investigator delivered a recovered company voicemail.
Graham’s voice said:
May you like
If Ellie questions the test data, remind the board she is under psychological review.
👉 Graham planned to use the false report not only to steal Ellie’s shares but to hide safety failures that could have endangered soldiers.
