Chapter 16 - The Father Who Already Knew

The black ledger documented more than stolen company money.
It contained payments to a reproductive endocrinologist from six years earlier.
Andrea remembered the doctor.
She and Marco had visited him after struggling to conceive.
Marco told Andrea the tests showed no clear medical problem.
That had been another lie.
The doctor’s original report showed Marco was infertile.
He had no viable sperm.
Andrea stared at Rebecca.
“That can’t be right.”
Rebecca placed a second document beside the report.
It was a consent form for donor conception.
Marco had signed it.
He had agreed that an anonymous donor would be used and acknowledged himself as Leo’s legal father.
Andrea had signed the same form, but the clinic presented the pages separately to protect donor confidentiality.
Marco later removed the document from their records.
He had spent five years pretending Leo was genetically his while planning to use his supposed paternity as the foundation of the custody attack.
The revelation did not erase his legal status as the father.
But it proved he knowingly lied when he claimed Leo’s genetics connected Valerie to their child.
It also destroyed his allegation that Andrea had deceived him about the conception.
Marco had known everything.
Valerie looked stunned.
“You told me Leo was yours.”
Marco turned away.
She began laughing through her tears.
“You were going to make me claim a child who wasn’t related to either of us.”
Marco had promised Valerie that she, Marco and Leo would become a family after Andrea lost control of the trust.
But neither Marco nor Valerie shared a biological connection to the boy.
They wanted the child because he was the key to the Whitmore shares.
Andrea pulled Leo closer.
He had been reduced to an asset inside their plan.
Detective Daniel informed Marco and Valerie that they were being detained while warrants were executed for their phones, accounts and properties.
Marco looked toward Andrea.
“You can’t take my son.”
Andrea’s face remained calm.
“You tried to take his mother, his identity and his future.”
“I raised him.”
“You rehearsed a five-year-old child to publicly reject the only mother he has ever known.”
Marco’s voice broke.
“Andrea, please.”
For years, that word would have weakened her.
Now it meant nothing.
“You made your choice before he was born.”
As officers led Marco away, Leo hid his face against Andrea’s dress.
“Is Daddy coming back?”
Andrea knelt and held him.
“Not today.”
She would not promise what the court had not decided.
But she could promise something else.
May you like
“No one is ever going to make you choose a different mommy again.”
👉 Marco’s genetic lie collapsed, but the court still had to decide whether a man who had raised Leo could retain any place in the child’s life.
